‘It’s a Jeep Thing:’ Man Parks Jeep Wagoneer S Outside With Half Charge. Then He Tries to Drive It 2 Days Later

A man turns to the internet for help after parking his Jeep Wagoneer S electric vehicle and finding it a “brick” two days later. Some viewers think he’s at fault.

The man behind the TikTok account Driving Sports TV (@drivingsports) posted a video about one of his personal vehicles earlier this week. The video, which has since amassed nearly 120,000 views, shows the TikToker’s Wagoneer S parked in his driveway.

The man explains, “So, two days ago, I put away the Jeep Wagoneer S All-Electric because I was done driving it for the day. I didn’t plug it in, but it did have a half charge when I parked it right here. Well, it’s now two days later, and, yeah, nothing.”

He goes up to the car and pushes the button on the door handle. There’s no response. “So, dead, dead, and, even worse, I can’t even plug in because I can’t open that port,” he says. “So, I think we have a problem here. So, this isn’t the Jeep Wagoneer S. … It is, in fact, the Jeep Wagoneer Brick.”

At the end of the video, he concludes, “I guess that’s the potential downside of an all-electric. When it doesn’t want to run, it really doesn’t want to run.”

Viewers React to the Jeep Wagoneer “Brick”

In the comments section, viewers offered a mix of mockery and practical advice. Others simply took the opportunity to talk down on Jeep's parent company, Stellantis, or electric vehicles in general.

First up is the practical advice. One viewer wrote, “Pop open the key fob. Use the key to manually unlock the door. Once inside, find the manual pulley for the electric charger door.”

Second up is pure Stellantis hate. “The way that I see it is your first problem is you bought a Jeep,” argued one viewer.

And, of course, plenty of EV haters weighed in. “The first mistake was buying an all electric vehicle,” one said.

How to Open a “Bricked” Jeep Wagoneer S

Yes, it’s possible to get stuck inside or locked out of an EV when the power level gets too low. That’s why, as the commenter suggested, the Wagoneer S fob is equipped with an emergency key that drivers can use to unlock the doors. You can see how the emergency key works in this video demonstration.

In a follow-up video, the man behind Driving Sports TV reveals that he was eventually able to get into the Wagoneer S through one of the passenger doors. Once he was inside the vehicle, he was able to get into the rear of the vehicle, where there is a charging door release and a 12-volt battery. He reset the 12-volt by taking the terminal leads off and putting them back on, which didn’t make an impact.

In a second follow-up video, the Wagoneer S is finally back online after he decided to use his Subaru WRX to jump-start it via the 12-volt battery in the back.

“And we’re live. It now works,” he says. “All the ports open and stuff, which is kind of what was expected, but we really had to get in there and pull that battery out. It was not easy to get to.”

He continued, “You should be able to park a vehicle and three days later drive it. That’s like the fundamental purpose of a vehicle. If a car maker cannot nail that core functionality, honestly, they should be doing something else.”
