INDIANAPOLIS — All lanes of I-465 were closed on the city’s southwest side due to a semi-truck catching fire for most of the evening on Thursday before reopening at 9 p.m.
According to the Indianapolis Department of Transportation, all lanes 465 northbound were closed just south of Washington Street on the western side of Indianapolis near the airport. No injuries were reported.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., interstate cameras showed a semi-truck on fire with black smoke belching into the sky.
Due to the hazard, all northbound lanes were closed.
As of 4 p.m., all lanes remained closed. Wayne Township Fire Department said the interstate would be closed “for an extended time” due to the semi tractor-trailer catching fire.

Commuters were asked to avoid the west side of 465.
At 5:10 p.m., some traffic began to pass by the wreckage on the far left shoulder.
The Indiana State Police stated at 6:18 p.m. that the interstate will remain closed for the next two to three hours while officers attempt to clear the scene. In the meantime, police urged motorists to divert onto I-70. The roadway reopened around 9 p.m.
