A teaser has been posted by Lexus Malaysia to social media, and it appears that the next model that may arrive soon in this market is the third-generation Lexus GX. Having made its debut in June 2023, the third-generation GX is positioned between the LX and the RX, and the GX is based on the manufacturer’s GA-F body-on-frame platform shared with the larger LX.
At its global debut, the GX was offered from the outset with a choice of two engines – a 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine, and a 2.4 litre turbocharged inline-four cylinder petrol hybrid powertrain.
The former powertrain in the LX outputs 415 PS and 650 Nm of torque, with that model employing a 10-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.4 litre turbo petrol hybrid could be like the setup in the Tacoma with the 2.4L iForce Max Hybrid powertrain which outputs 326 hp and 630 Nm when combined with a 48 hp electric motor that draws from a 1.87 kWh NiMH battery pack.
Of note with the third-generation GX is the Overtrail trim grade that brings a more off-road oriented equipment package, including all-terrain tyres and E-KDSS, or Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System that was first deployed on the 300 Series Toyota Land Cruiser.
This system can lock or release the front and rear anti-roll bars independently giving the vehicle added wheel articulation, offering greater flexibility of movement during off-roading. In terms of surmounting obstacles, approach, breakover and departure angles for the third-generation Lexus GX are 26 degrees, 23 degrees and 23 degrees, respectively.
When the GX arrives on the Malaysian market, it will join the brand’s SUV line-up that is currently comprised of the LBX, NX, RX and the battery-electric RZ currently on sale in the country.
