Look at what we chanced upon at the ongoing Global Automotive Technology Expo (GATE) 2025 – the face kind of reminds one of Lalamove’s Duola Bafang van with those stacked headlamps, no? This is a Jenhoo EV48, an electric panel van that’s set to be launched by CAM Malaysia early next year. The estimated price is RM150k.
Jen-who? It’s a 2020-established Chinese new-energy commercial vehicle maker. This EV48 is its first product, beginning production in 2022. In China, JMC sells this as the E-Lushun V6 (no, it doesn’t have a V6, nor any kind of engine for that matter).
It’s quite interesting-looking, with no B-pillars (easing loading/unloading), a flat nose, the aforementioned stacked headlamps, vertical tail lamps with the Jenhoo logo in them and a totally flat, featureless rump – advertising, anyone? No back window (no rear-view mirror either), because of course the bulkhead behind the driver already blocks everything.
The cockpit’s actually not that austere – manual cloth seats and a button-less steering wheel, naturally, but there’s a R-N-D column gear selector, two-tone dash and a touch-screen of respectable size. When was the last time you saw an EV with keyed ignition and a traditional handbrake (psst… it’s rear-wheel drive)? And yes, two airbags.
On to what’s important in a van – six cubic metres of cargo space (2,827 x 1,525 x 1,381 mm), 1.4-tonne payload, sliding door on both sides (max opening 1.5 metres), monocoque construction. A 53.58 kWh CATL LFP battery feeds a 82 PS/220 Nm rear-mounted electric motor. Claimed CLTC range is 390 km, claimed drag coefficient is 0.38 and the claimed 0-50 km/h (yes, 50) time is five seconds.
Charging? The EV48 will swallow up to 6.6 kW AC (10-100% in about nine hours). It’ll accept DC as well (max rate undisclosed), which can get you from 20-80% in 45 minutes. The vehicle warranty is five years/200,000 km. Wanna see some more EV vans in Malaysia? CAM EA4 and EC35, Foton iBlue, Higer Ace E1, Maxus eDeliver 3 and eDeliver 7,
