The Honda 0 α (Alpha) next-generation EV may have been the centrepiece of the Japanese automaker’s displays at the recent Japan Mobility Show 2025, but the two other integral models in the series, the ones that will appear before the Alpha, were also given a prominent position within the showcase.
The 0 Saloon and 0 SUV and Saloon prototypes, which were first presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the start of the year, were also on the main stand. Fittingly, because they will be the flag bearers for the company’s global electrification push, debuting in 2026, a year before the Alpha arrives.
The 0 Saloon prototype is essentially a development of the concept that it showed at CES 2024, and while it retains the one-box shape, some of the radical design cues have been dropped to bring the car closer to production specification.
This includes replacing the gullwing doors with regular ones and restyling the headlights and the nose. Otherwise, elements like the sweeping roofline, large rear diffuser and the rectangular display panel, continue to feature.
Of course, beyond the mention that it – and the SUV – will be equipped with the automaker’s new Asimo OS operating system, nothing has yet been ventured on its technical specs or powertrain. Nonetheless, it does look like the 0 SUV will be the first in, given that the prototype has already made its working debut, via a demonstration drive at a ‘Red Bull Showrun x Powered by Honda’ event in Tokyo earlier this year.
Of the duo, the 0 SUV is more conventional looking, its shape clean, with minimal lines, with the visual novelty being a prominent D-pillar section and a heavily-tapered rear end. In essence, it’s a larger scale depiction of the Alpha, which shares similar design traits, including the letterbox-styled rear screen and U-shaped full-width taillights framing the tailgate.
Internal design cues on both prototypes include a full-width display panel with five digital screens, including two for the side-view cameras and a yoke-styled steering. As for the tech under all that skin, the Asimo element will incorporate advanced AI as part of its software defined vehicles (SDVs) approach. The cars will feature integrated control of ECUs for systems such as Level 3 driver assist tech and infotainment, while the software will handle many tasks, including the integrated control of vehicle dynamics.
Production of the Honda 0 SUV will take place at the automaker’s EV Hub in Ohio ahead of it going on sale in the US sometime in the first half of 2026, before it then enters other global markets, including Japan and Europe, with the 0 Saloon following later in the year. In total, there will be seven 0 Series models that will be introduced globally by 2030.
