Genesis has unveiled the Magma GT Concept, a rear-mid-engined concept which “hints at the brand’s ambition to explore GT-category racing,” it said. The brand had previously confirmed plans to develop the concept into a halo model, as well as to enter GT racing in the future.
“The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability,” said Genesis president and chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke of the brand’s first “pure sports car”.
“It isn’t defined by raw aggression or uncompromising speed — it is defined by balance. This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, composed under pressure, and meticulously tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to make performance effortless,” said Donckerwolke.
Little is offered in terms of specific details for the Magma GT Concept for now, though the brand’s GT category racing ambitions indicate that the future production model will be powered by an internal combustion engine, as required by current GT racing regulations. Mid-engined contenders in production sports car racing categories include the Ferrari 296 GT3 and the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R, among others.
The brand speaks of “motorsport-inspired proportions and aerodynamics” on the Magma GT Concept, with low front end and an elongated sloping roofline going over a “boat-tail cabin” that narrows towards the rear.
Its front canards integrate with the headlamps, while below these is a full-width inlet, atop a front splitter. At the rear, a two-line tail lamp graphic complements the headlamp design, while the rear bodywork is also optimised for aerodynamic performance, says Genesis.
Genesis will head into sports car endurance racing with its entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship in the Le Mans Hypercar class next year with the GMR-001, to be followed by an entry into the United States IMSA LMDh series in 2027; its commitment to a GT3-class programme will take place some time after that, reported Autocar.
